Product Introduction
Paraffin is a type of mineral wax as well as a kind of petroleum wax, primarily composed of a mixture of carbon (C) and hydrogen (H) elements, with the general chemical formula CₓHᵧ. It is a byproduct obtained during the refining of crude oil, typically appearing as flaky or needle-like crystals—also known as crystalline wax. When paper is immersed in paraffin, it yields various types of waxed paper with excellent water-resistant properties, making it suitable for packaging food, pharmaceuticals, and other products, as well as for metal rust prevention and printing applications. Additionally, incorporating paraffin into cotton yarn can impart textiles with softness, smoothness, and elasticity. Paraffin is also widely used to produce detergents, emulsifiers, dispersants, plasticizers, and lubricating greases, among other products.
The primary quality indicators of paraffin wax are melting point and oil content— the former reflects its temperature resistance, while the latter indicates its purity. Each type of wax is further divided into different grades based on its melting point, such as grades 52, 54, 56, and 58. Depending on the degree of refining and processing, paraffin wax can be categorized into three types: fully refined wax (with oil content below 0.8%), semi-refined wax (with oil content below 1.8%), and crude wax. Among these, fully refined and semi-refined waxes are more widely used due to their superior properties.
After adding polyolefin additives to paraffin wax, its melting point increases, while adhesion and flexibility are enhanced, making it suitable for candle production. As resources of animal and plant waxes become increasingly scarce, most candles today are made from paraffin wax. Domestically, candle manufacturers primarily use semi-refined paraffin wax as their raw material, whereas the paraffin wax exported to international markets is mainly fully refined.
Product applications:
Used in industries such as candle manufacturing, crayons, ceremonial candles, PVC-V pipes, hot-melt adhesives, rubber production, wires and cables, board manufacturing, density board production, filler masterbatches, waterproof materials, electrical insulation, food packaging, fruit preservation, precision casting, and wax paper production.
